Korean Food

Korean food has recently been a popular cuisines ranging from kimchi to Korean BBQ. But how has it become so sought after and how did suddenly reach popularity in modern day America?

What are the different types of Korean food?

Korean food has a variety of dishes that ranges from side dishes, stews, meat dishes, vegetable staple dishes, soups and many more.

The most famous Korean dishes known worldwide are Korean fried chicken, Kimchi (fermented spicy cabbage), Korean BBQ, and Tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes).

There are so many different flavors and various dishes for different tastes and palates. Korean food is known to be healthy and heart warming. There are many traditional Korean foods that consist of gluten and dairy free products as well as many vegan options. There are also many meat dishes for those who would like a more omnivorous diet. The stews and soups also range from various flavors created from different broths which range from anchovy broths to pork broths and vegetable broths.

Pastes like dwenjang (soybean paste) and gochujang (red pepper paste) is an essential in Korean cooking. Aromatics and herbs such as red pepper flakes, garlic, and sesame seeds are another common thing to see in Korean cooking.

Korean food hasn't been popular when many Koreans mass immigrated to the U.S. in the 1980s and 1990s. Due to the higher pricings and stronger earthier flavors, it tended to keep within the Korean community. However the rise of this cultural food has risen due to the mere influence of Korean media and the Hallyu wave.

Due to the rise of Korean food, there have been many Korean inspired or Korean fusion restaurants which (in my humble opinion) aren't as good as the authentic Korean food restaurants.
